A LACE BAG IDEAL FOR USING UP CONE ENDS
(Designed by Jan Booth as in MKN May 2002, p. 70)
MATERIALS: 50g of 4 ply cotton, beads to decorate base of bag, standard gauge punchcard or electronic machine with lace transfer carriage.
SIZE: 60cm x 24cm, after washing.
TENSION: 28sts and 40 rows to 10cm measured over st st after wasing, drying and steam pressing. (TD approx 8 = MT)
NOTE: The purl side is used as the right side.
METHOD: Work 2 pieces alike.
Push Ns 16 and 15 L of centre '0' to WP. Cast on using 'e' wrap. RC000 MT, K2 rows. CAR. Inc 1 st at beg of every row until 30 sts ending CAR. Set carr for HP and push all Ns to HP
Push Ns 15,16 R of centre '0' to WP. Work as given for first side. CAR.
RC000 set carr so HP Ns will K. Inc 1 st at beg of next 2 rows, 62 sts. Waste K and re-hang sts with right side facing.
RC000, K2 rows, insert punchcard/program patt. Start and work in lace patt until RC shows 60. Dec 1 st at each end of every foll alt row to RC80, then do several rows of waste knitting. Rehang sts with wrong side facing. Cont in st st, dec 1 st at each end of every foll alt row until RC shows 90. Dec 1 st at each end of every row until 14 sts rem. K until RC shows 200 and take off on waste knitting.
TO MAKE UP: Join triange sections at the bottom of each side. Join both sides to the start of decreases in lace section. Graft the handle together. Sew a bead or beads to the base of the bag.
